Where Scandinavian design meets the web shelf

Bolia is a Danish design company founded in Aarhus in 2000. It began as a webshop and has grown into a brand with its own stores across Europe, webshops in around 30 countries and a network of retailers around the world.

For a brand that was online from day one, images are the product. Every sofa, chair and rug exists in a long list of colors, fabrics and settings, and the pictures have to work everywhere: in the webshop, in catalogues, in the stores and with the architects and interior designers who work with Bolia furniture.

Bolia has used Kontainer as its DAM for more than seven years, and the library has grown along with the business.

Our webshop and stores run on the images in Kontainer. New renderings arrive straight from our partner, files end up in the right place on their own, and everything reaches the web through our CDN. That leaves us free to focus on the products instead of on moving files around.

The challenge

Every variant, every channel, always up to date

Bolia’s range comes in a huge number of combinations, and each one needs images, renderings and technical files. Add colleagues at headquarters and in the stores, partners, architects and a webshop that must always show the right picture, and the material quickly becomes a lot to keep in order.

Files needed to find their right place without manual work, outdated material needed to retire without anyone chasing it, and new renderings from external partners needed to arrive without detours.

The Solution

A library that organizes itself

Kontainer is where Bolia keeps its product images, catalogues, videos, brand and press material, together with 3D and CAD files such as DWG, Revit, OBJ, SketchUp and 3ds Max for architects and interior designers.

Smart folders place new files where they belong, release control makes sure only approved material is visible, and files are archived automatically when they expire. Bolia’s 3D rendering partner uploads straight into Kontainer, so new renderings land in the library without anyone passing files along.

Colleagues at headquarters and in the stores log in with single sign-on through Microsoft Entra ID, and their groups are managed centrally, so everyone sees what is relevant to them. A set of download templates turns the same master image into the right format for web, social media or print, from small material swatches to large PNGs and WebP for the shop.

The Gains

From the library to the webshop without the manual steps

Kontainer has become the image engine behind Bolia’s webshop and stores. Around 2.4 million files are published through Bolia’s own CDN domain, so the library that serves the team also feeds the web.

Struct, Bolia’s PIM, is connected to Kontainer: assets are synced to Struct via the CDN, and product data from Struct enriches the files in the DAM, so images and product information stay aligned. A B2B module and open portals give retailers and partners access to the material they need, and a Contentstack CMS integration is next, going live in January.

In the past year, colleagues have made around 18,000 downloads through the download templates, and shared links are used almost every day. The library is in use far beyond the marketing team.
