Comwell is a Danish hotel chain with hotels and venues across the country, built around meetings, conferences and a strong tradition for food and spa.

A hotel brand lives on its pictures. Rooms, restaurants, spas, conference facilities, local events and campaigns all need photos and video, and the material has to look right on the websites, on social media and in press and print.

Comwell has used Kontainer as its DAM since the end of 2022, and the library now holds around 14,000 files: mostly photos, more than 1,300 videos and a collection of design files.

Kontainer gives us one place for all our photos and videos, and the website simply picks up what it needs. Images arrive in the right size, video plays straight from the library, and our colleagues log in with the same account they use every day. It makes it much easier to keep the brand consistent.

The challenge

Many hotels, many stories, and a website that needs the right picture

For a hotel chain, the pictures come from everywhere: photoshoots, local events, campaigns, collaborations and the hotels themselves. Each one has to find its place in the library, be easy to find again, and end up on the website in the right shape and size.

At the same time, the website needs the same image in many crops and widths, video should play without leaning on third-party platforms, and a large group of colleagues, plus a few external partners, needs access without yet another set of logins.

The Solution

One master image, every size the website asks for

Comwell’s library is organized around brand and design guidelines, photoshoots, local events, campaigns, collaborations, social media and press. Most of the folders are smart folders that fill themselves from filters, so new material lands where it belongs without manual sorting.

Everyone logs in with single sign-on, and access follows Comwell’s own user groups from Active Directory, so the right colleagues see the right material. External users are kept in a group of their own.

For the website, Kontainer holds a ready-made set of download templates. The same master image is delivered in a long list of aspect ratios and widths, as JPEG and WebP, along with formats for social sharing and thumbnails. A focal point on the picture keeps the motif in view when the crop changes.

The Gains

Fresh images on the website, no copy-paste needed

Kontainer is connected to Comwell’s CMS, Statamic, so images and video travel from the library to the website without being downloaded and uploaded again. Around 5,000 files are published through Comwell’s own CDN domain, and Kontainer keeps track of where they are used: roughly 3,000 files are registered as in use outside Kontainer, across almost 12,000 references.

Video is streamed straight from Kontainer with the Kontainer Video Streaming tool, so the websites do not need an external video service.

The library is also a place for sharing. In the past year, colleagues created around 340 new share links, which have been opened more than 1,100 times.
