DAC COMPANY PROFILE

Opening architecture up to everyone

Since 1985, the Danish Architecture Center has worked to make architecture something everyone can experience, understand and take part in. What started in a warehouse on Strandgade is today Denmark’s national architecture center and an international hub for exhibitions, debate, learning and events.

Since 2018, DAC has been based in BLOX on the Copenhagen harbour front, a building designed by OMA. DAC is a public-private partnership between the Danish state and Realdania.

Exhibitions, talks, guided tours and learning programmes produce a steady flow of photos and videos. Much of it ends up on dac.dk, in both Danish and English, which is why DAC relies on Kontainer DAM to manage and publish its visual content.

DAC - files outdated not tagged and not compliant

The challenge

A large library, a busy website and no easy way to keep them in sync

DAC’s DAM holds a large and growing library of exhibition photos, architecture imagery and video, but only part of it is actually used on dac.dk.

Making the website accessible meant every image in use needed good alt text in both Danish and English. Checking the whole library by hand to find those images, and then writing descriptions for each one, was simply not realistic.

At the same time, images copied manually into the website quickly went out of date, and publishing video through external platforms raised questions about cookies, tracking, third-party branding and GDPR.

the solution

The Solution

AI alt text and assets served straight from the DAM

In Kontainer, DAC’s image files are reviewed automatically to find the pictures that are actually used on dac.dk. AI then writes accessibility alt text in both English and Danish and saves it back onto those assets, so the website imagery is enriched without anyone checking the full library by hand.

DAC’s CMS is integrated with Kontainer through embedded CDN links. Images and videos are published directly from the DAM, so when a file is updated in Kontainer, the website shows the new version automatically. Assets on dac.dk are always up-to-date, and there are no copies to track down and replace.
